MTV TAKES TO THE ROAD WITH A HOST OF SPANKING NEW BANDS DESTINED FOR SUCCESS IN 2006
MTV is gearing up to go on the road for a series of Spanking New Music gigs, showcasing some of the UK’s most promising new music talent. Spanking New Music continues to be an integral part of MTV’s commitment to promoting live, new music, often giving fans their first taste of brand new music, and the acts on the tour their first TV exposure.
MTV will be coming to three major cities in the UK & Ireland during March to introduce new artists to music fans in a series of live music gigs. Newcastle is the first port of call on the 20th of March, where MTV Hits will take over Northumbria University with a fantastic line-up of pop acts hotly tipped for success this year. Matt Willis will be performing his first, and much anticipated, solo material since Busted split over a year ago. The Feeling, James Morrison, and Professor Green have also been confirmed to showcase their electrifying live sets to the Newcastle audience.
Meanwhile, MTV Base will land in Dublin on March 22nd, to host what promises to be a sensational night of the finest new acts in hip hop and R’n’B. Reeling from the current buzz surrounding him in the UK’s hip-hop scene, Sway joins Mpho Skeef, Rishi Rich and Fun*dmental 03 to complete the line-up.
Finally, MTV2 will bring the week to a climactic close on March 24th in Birmingham. Carl Barat’s new band Dirty Pretty Things will lead the live performances of the evening and ¡Forward, Russia! Larrikin Love, Fields, and The On Offs, will ensure MTV2 fans looking for fresh talent, won’t be disappointed.
Each night will also be hosted by one of MTV’s well-known faces. Dave Berry and Emma Griffiths will present the MTV Hits night, meanwhile Trevor Nelson will host the MTV Base night and a special guest will host the MTV2 evening. MTVs Spanking New Music gigs will be filmed to air across MTV Hits, MTV Base and MTV2 on the 8th of May, as follows: MTV Hits at 7pm, MTV Base at 8pm and MTV2 at 9pm.
Now in its fourth year, Spanking New Music Week is fast becoming the opportunity to catch bands and solo artists before they break into the mainstream. Previous years have helped launch then-unknowns, such as Kasabian, Bloc Party and Natasha Beddingfield. Last year’s line-up included Mystery Jets, Editors, The Kooks and M.I.A, all of whom went onto have a year of staggering success, not least M.I.A’s nomination at the Mercury Music Awards.
This year, once again, MTV will offer fans the opportunity to be part of the intimate audience at each gig. Go to www.mtv.co.uk/spankingnew for more information. Tickets are exclusive to competition winners, so keep a close eye on competitions running in the local media.
