THE FRATELLIS, THE ZUTONS, THE PIGEON DETECTIVES, CSS AND THE FUTUREHEADS TO HEADLINE PLUS A HOST OF SPANKING NEW BANDS DESTINED FOR SUCCESS IN 2008
MTV UK is taking to the road for a series of Spanking New Music gigs, showcasing brand new tracks from established artists alongside some of the most promising new acts around. MTV will land in major cities throughout the UK and Ireland kicking off on 27th April in Cambridge with stellar line-up The Fratellis, The Ting Tings and Alphabeat.
After a knock-out year in 2007, The Fratellis return with their eagerly anticipated new material. The band has chosen MTV’s Spanking New Music Tour to showcase it live for the very first time. Joining them onstage are burgeoning darlings of the live music scene, The Ting Tings. The Manchester duo will belt out their catchy pop themes that have led them to be deservedly touted as the next big thing. Performing alongside will be Danish pop act, Alphabeat. Creating a storm in their native country the six-piece are starting to create waves in the UK with their ‘80’s nostalgia which has drawn comparisons to Wham! and the B-52s.
As the tour shifts to Cardiff in May, The Zutons will headline. Reeling from huge success in 2006, Spanking New fans will get to sample their newest tracks live for the very first time. One Night Only will support, whipping the crowd into a frenzy with their Yorkshire rooted melodic rock, followed closely by Irish trio, The Script, whose debut single although not out until April is already receiving rapturous acclaim.
Kicking off the second half of the tour, The Pigeon Detectives will deliver tracks from their Spanking New second album. Featuring the band’s first ever delve into acoustic songs, fans will not be disappointed. They are joined by South London’s cheeky punk/funk/rockabilly youngsters – The Metros. And hailing from Liverpool, The Rascals will inject a chaotic flavour to the evening.
Bringing the Tour to a climactic close are CSS, The Futureheads and MGMT. Brazilian indie outfit CSS have been busy recording their new album in deepest Sao Paulo and promise fans it will be even rawer than the debut. The Futureheads will unleash tracks from their third album, produced by Smashing Pumpkins’ Youth. The Sunderland pop-punk quartet’s latest offering is already receiving an excited response in the music press. Connecticut duo MGMT complete the final line-up and will deliver their unique blend of electro-psychedelia which has seen UK fans demanding advanced imports of their forthcoming album.

Now in its sixth year, MTV's Spanking New Music continues to provide a prime opportunity for fans to catch breaking new bands along with the newest music from their favourite established acts. Previous years have helped launch then-unknowns Kasabian, The Kooks, James Morrison and Bloc Party. And last year seen The Hoosiers kick off what was to become a tremendous year.
