MTV continues to find new ways to champion emerging talent with the launch of MTV Spanking New Sessions. Live, acoustic performances from artists signed and unsigned, this new platform allows MTV to support newer artists earlier.
MTV Spanking New Sessions launches on 16th July 2007. Performances will be filmed here at the MTV Studios and primarily will be an online entity at mtv.co.uk/sessions. Our audience consumes music across a multitude of platforms, recognising this, MTV’s Spanking New Sessions aims to offer more varied and unique content for our broadband users. The artists featured will fall within our music genre channels MTV2, MTV Base, MTV Hits and VH1 and will potentially get support within these channels.

Artists confirmed to feature on MTV’s Spanking New Sessions so far include Justin Nozuka, Tinchy Stryder, Johnny Flynn, Daughtry, Ruarri Joseph, Kate Nash, Andrew Bird, Stephanie Dosen, Operahouse and Cherry Ghost.
The launch of MTV’s Spanking New Sessions on the 16th July features three artists: Justin Nozuka, an 18 year old, singer song-writer, New York born but Toronto raised and based. He is brewing his burgeoning career touring with his guitar and soulful vocals, singing songs of love, hope, despair, life and death. Justin Nozuka performs ‘Down In A Well’, ‘Golden Train’ and ‘Mr Therapy Man’ exclusively for MTV Spanking New Sessions, the first single to be released from his debut album ‘Holly’ on independent label Outcaste.
Johnny Flynn, jack of all trades and master of each, is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actor, poet and artist. He performs ‘Brown Trout Blues’, ‘Tickle Me Pink’ and the ‘Wayne Rooney Song’. Johnny and his band The Sussex Twit are about to release their second 7” titled ‘Ode To A Mare Trod Ditch’. They’ll be embarking on a UK tour and are soon to announce a record deal.
Tinchy Stryder, ‘the prince of grime’ performs ‘Something About Your Smile’, ‘Follow’ and ‘Breakaway’. Tinchy Styder was introduced to the underground by the now legendary Wiley, back in 2003 at just 16 years old. Over the past few years he has been crafting his skill, appearing on pirate stations and performing on the club circuit both here in the UK and in Europe. He has built an impressive fan base with his cheeky charm, style and swagger.
