As Senior Vice President, Production & Music, Richard Godfrey leads the MTV Networks UK & Ireland music department which encompasses responsibility for the 6-pack of UK Music Channels, Music Programming and Talent & Artist Management (TAM). He also heads all UK and International Production. Godfrey is also Executive Producer of the MTV Europe Music Awards, Europe’s biggest and boldest music awards ceremony.
As Executive Producer of the MTV Europe Music Awards, Godfrey has final say on Europe’s biggest music awards ceremony and one of the biggest events in the world today. Known as the 'music Oscars', this prestigious ceremony continues to impress in terms of the quality of the event and the calibre of its artists. Godfrey continues to exact the highest standards from all areas of the show including the production team, the stage set, artist appearances, scripts, and style of the show.
In his previous role as Senior Vice President, MTV Network International (MTVNI) Content and Music, Richard Godfrey oversaw all programming and production shared by the 47 MTV channels outside the US, including a daily entertainment news service, movie programming, documentaries, specials, programme development, all live music and special events.
Godfrey set up MTV's London based programme development unit (aka The Greenhouse) which has produced many notable contributions to popular culture including Virgin Diaries, Strutter, Totally Scott Lee and the forthcoming Fist of Zen.
An MTV veteran, Godfrey started his broadcasting career in Radio with stints at LBC and Capital before moving into television where credits include The Word and The Big Breakfast. His first producer credit was on the series that consistently makes the list of the worst shows ever made-channel 4's Club X... he's learned a lot since then.
Godfrey holds a BA (Hons) in History from Bristol University.
