MTV is gearing up for a series of Spanking New Music gigs, showcasing brand new tracks from now established artists and some of the UK’s most promising new music talent. Spanking New Music continues to be an integral part of MTV’s commitment to promoting live, new music, often giving fans their first taste of brand new music, and the acts on the tour their first TV exposure.
MTV will be setting up camp in Bristol’s Anson Rooms from March 21st – 23rd to introduce new and exclusive tracks from Natasha Bedingfield, Kano and Biffy Clyro.
Natasha Bedingfield featured in MTV Spanking New Music Week back in 2004, at the beginning of her music career, she has since catapulted to success with a string of hits including ‘Single’ and ‘These Words’. Natasha has gone down a storm in the US where she’s been flying the British flag for the past 18 months. Miss Bedingfield leads proceedings on the MTV Hits night with a set that will include her new single ‘I Wanna Have Your Babies’. Mutya Buena of Sugababes fame will perform an exclusive set of her highly anticipated brand new, solo material. And Calvin Harris and The Hoosiers complete a bill that will leave fans in a frenzy.
Kano released his debut album ‘Home Sweet Home’ to critical acclaim back in 2005, he returns in 2007 with his highly anticipated 2nd offering. Kano heads up an MTV Base night that promises to be a sensational gig of the finest new acts in the all encompassing ‘urban’ world. Reeling from the current buzz surrounding him in the UK’s grime scene, Jme joins N-Dubz, and Unklejam to complete the line-up.
MTV2 will bring the week to a sweet crescendo on March 23rd. Scot rockers Biffy Clyro will lead the live performances of the evening with tracks off their soon to be released, fourth album, ‘Puzzles’. The Twang, Hadouken! And The Wombats will ensure MTV2 fans looking for fresh talent, won’t be disappointed.
Each night will also be hosted by MTV’s well-known faces and one very special guest. Emma Griffiths and Matt Willis will host the MTV Hits night, Trevor Nelson will host the MTV Base night and Zane Lowe will host the MTV2 evening.
MTVs Spanking New Music gigs will be filmed to air on MTV Hits, MTV Base and MTV2 from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th April.
On each night every set will also be streamed live on MTV Overdrive!
Then after the show goes out on TV all the performances will be available as VOD on Overdrive, with the added bonus of backstage excitements and artist interviews.
Not only will MTVs Spanking New Music be a chance for music fans to watch new, live sets, MTV2 and MTV Base will also be offering one live track per artist to be made available for free download immediately after the main shows premiere via www.mtv.co.uk/spankingnew
Now in its fifth year, Spanking New Music Week is fast becoming the opportunity to catch bands and solo artists before they break into the mainstream. Previous years have helped launch then-unknowns, such as Kasabian, The Kooks and Lady Sovereign. Last year’s line-up included Sway, James Morrison, Dirty Pretty Things, all of whom went onto have a year of staggering success.
This year, once again, MTV will offer fans the opportunity to be part of the intimate audience at each gig. Go to www.mtv.co.uk/spankingnew for more information. Tickets priced £10, will be available from the 24hr credit card hotline on 0871 2200 260 or online from www.gigsandtours.com
