Rap maestro Jay Z takes charge of MTV Base for a night that grants viewers unprecedented access to the life of one of hip hop’s most prolific artists. Witness the chart legend’s first performances since announcing his retirement back in 2003, as he launches a career revival in the shape of a gruelling international world tour. En route, Jay Z visits regions around the globe affected by the devastating world water crisis in a unique, insightful and informative diary, shot exclusively for MTV. The king of the rap scene comes to MTV Base on Monday 27th November at 8.30pm.
First up at 8.30pm is Diary of Jay Z, in which MTV’s cameras follow the five time Grammy Award winner on his acclaimed come back tour. From the triumphant first night in Poland, through to stops in London, Italy and South Africa, the diary exposes Jay Z’s true feelings at returning to the industry, and traces his first tentative steps to recording brand new material, the eagerly anticipated album Kingdom Come.
At 9pm, MTV Base hands you front row tickets to Jay Z’s spectacular live one hour show in Italy, as the rap supreme showcases his exciting new sounds. Broadcast from the Fiera di Milano in Rho, Coca Cola Live – Jay Z re-defines Jay Z as a groundbreaking ambassador for the hip hop genre, treating fans to some of his most memorable hits, including chart stormers Hard Knock Life, Big Pimpin’ and Izzo (H.O.V.A).
Diary of Jay Z: Water for Life is an honest and compelling expose of the life threatening difficulties posed to more than a billion people worldwide without access to healthy supplies of drinking water. Screening at 10pm, the programme identifies the harsh realities of this global crisis, and tears down emotional boundaries as Jay Z sets off on a heartfelt personal journey to learn more about the sufferers themselves and attempt to find a means of ending their plight.
Jay Z Night marks the return of a world music superstar, as both an unrivalled performer and a compassionate human being intent on making a difference.
