The debates start Saturday 28 February on MTV Base at 9pm
Followed by VH1 and MTV Two on Sunday 1 March at 9pm
Last year MTV invited viewers to vote for MTV’s Greatest Ever Video, and ‘Rio’ by Duran Duran was crowned the ultimate music video of the MTV generation.
This year, MTV want to find MTV’s Greatest Ever Album from a selection of 300 international albums that have won scores of adoring fans since the channel launched in 1981.
MTV Base, MTV Two and VH1 will champion a selection of 100 albums each; then debate programmes hosted by Trevor Nelson (MTV Base), Zane Lowe (MTV Two) and Edith Bowman (VH1) will discuss the merits of each album in a bid to select the 10 best rock, urban and pop offerings across the three channels at 9pm on 28 February (VH1 and MTV Base) and again at 9pm on 1 March (MTV2).
During the debate shows famous faces from the music industry will argue the toss over the albums fighting the corners of the albums they love the most, and decide which ones warrant being held aloft as fine examples of a great album. Those taking part include Nicky Wire from The Manic Street Preachers, Suggs, Pete Burns, Pete Waterman, Jay Sean and Semtex.
The ten albums from each channel will be put forward for the public to vote for online and decide on which is the greatest.
Which album will be the nation’s favourite album since 1981? And which album deserves to win the accolade of MTV’s Greatest Album Ever?
Voting commences on 28 February on www.mtv.co.uk/greatestalbum Results will be simulcast across all three channels on Sunday 12 April 2009.
